caz who?

Hola. So as you may (or may not) have gathered, I’m Carol/Carol Ann; though on occasion I’m referred to by my uni mates as Caz. Most of what you need to know about me has been pre-packaged in a lovely nutshell that is the snippet on the sidebar; however, I realize that’s not enough for some [innocent] nosey parkers…(now now, don’t worry, I’m one as well – I totally get where you’re coming from. :p )

I’m a stereotypically-petite (but not THAT kind of cutesy) Asian currently doing my first year in Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London. For the clueless, BME (for short) means that I’m the mastermind behind the crazy medical technology you see doctors using for diagnosis and treatment – artificial hearts, gamma knives (for cancerous tumors), prosthetic limbs…that’s my domain in a few years! I was born and raised in sunny Malaysia for most of my life, then shipped over to boarding school in Somerset, England for the last 4 years of high school – and now, I’m here in London putting the “pro” in “procrastinate” living out some of the best years of my life.

I also have a younger brother, Jeremiah/Jerry – who also blogs. Well, sometimes.

When I’m not updating Surrealle or tooling in the land of academia, I’m probably immersing myself in a hodge-podge of interests. I’m also a classically-trained Grade 8+ pianist and violinist, not-so-classically-trained harmonica player, photography enthusiast, as well as a sometime-actress and theater technician – so it’s probably one from that list above. Apart from that, I write less-personal spiel, proofread ALL the articles(!) and also manage content on the online portal for Felix, Imperial’s student newspaper. Or sometimes, I doodle – which you’ll agree is pretty obvious from the portfolio section of the website.

Despite the grammar Nazi streak that landed me my proofreading stint for Felix, I sometimes have an uncanny ability to turn nouns and objects into verbs. I’m also known for infrequently breaching the Standard Descriptive Voabulary Act for my use of non-Webster-defined words such as “snazzy”, “coolio”, et al.

Other than that, I’m also noted for my rather-odd “somewhat-transatlantic” accent (read: not American, but not British either), ability to speak at least 3 languages fluently (sometimes blending them altogether, Malaysian-style! :D ), immense love of deadpan and cheeky jibes (especially when the latter is delivered in the manner of the former), and an incredibly chipper/passionate – sometimes overly so! – personality. Words of others, not moi. *hand on heart*

I’d say the best way to get to know yours truly is to follow this blog (sub to Surrealle’s feed here), befriend me on one of the few social networks I happen to be on, or well…just drop me a line either via a comment or email. :)
